Job Title: Hindu Temple Priest
Location: Overland Park, Kansas, USA
Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Hindu Temple Priest, preferably "Hindi bhashi origin" to join our team at the Sri Ganesha Temple of Kansas located in Overland Park, Kansas. The ideal candidate will be empathetic, caring, and well-versed in Hindu scriptures, rituals, and traditions, with the ability to effectively perform various religious ceremonies and services. This role involves leading worship services, conducting rituals, providing spiritual guidance to devotees, and maintaining the sanctity of the temple premises.
Responsibilities:
Conduct Worship Services: Perform daily and special worship services according to Hindu traditions and scriptures, including performing puja, abhishekam, aarati, and other rituals as required.
Provide Spiritual Guidance: Offer spiritual counseling, advice, and guidance to temple devotees, addressing their religious queries and concerns with compassion and wisdom.
Preserve Temple Sanctity: Ensure the maintenance of cleanliness, orderliness, and sanctity within the temple premises, including the proper care of idols, shrines, and sacred spaces.
Facilitate Community Engagement: Foster a sense of community among temple devotees by organizing religious and cultural events, festivals, and educational programs.
Conduct Religious Education: Teach Hindu scriptures, philosophy, and values to individuals and groups, including children, youth, and adults, through classes, workshops, and seminars.
Collaborate with Temple Management: Work closely with temple management and committees to plan and execute temple activities, events, and initiatives effectively.
Requirements:
Ordained Hindu Priest: Formal training from a recognized institution or authority and/or experience as a Hindu priest, with thorough knowledge of Hindu scriptures, rituals, and traditions.
Spiritual Integrity: Strong personal commitment to Hindu spiritual practices, values, and principles, with a deep understanding of dharma, karma, and the concept of seva (selfless service).
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills in Hindi, English and proficiency in Sanskrit and other relevant languages for conducting rituals and reciting scriptures.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact warmly and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.
Organizational Skills: Strong leadership, organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and manage temple activities efficiently.
Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate the needs of the temple and its devotees.
Legal Authorization: Authorization to work in the United States and compliance with all legal requirements for employment in the country (We are unable to apply for visa/sponsorship at this time).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working as a Hindu temple priest or in a similar religious leadership role.
Familiarity with Hindu traditions specific to the region/community served by the temple.
Knowledge of performing bhajans, kirtans, reciting Sunderkand, Tulsidas Ramayana, Bhagwat katha, and some other poranik kathayen with harmonium and/or dholak are must.
Able to conduct various religious ceremonies and rites, such as weddings, naming ceremonies (Namakaran), thread ceremonies (Upanayanam), and other sacraments.
Knowledge of Vedic astrology is a plus.
Ability to perform basic computer skills for administrative tasks, communication, and digital outreach.
